In my wildest dreams I never could imagine a happier birthday celebration than the one at Terry & Doug Cooper’s house last weekend. It was a time of laughter and love, of tears and remembrances, of friends and colleagues, and realizing there is no difference between the two.
And singing. I’m relieved each of you is gainfully employed (or retired) and are not trying to make a living singing. Ah, but the “Ruth” song was a joyous romp thanks in good measure to Ray, editor turned lyricist. It’s one for the ages, even if Bridey couldn’t be there to help raise the roof.
So many treasured moments tucked into my memory–especially when the cards arrived. A huge basket of cards. It was filled to overflowing with birthday cards and notes from each of you. I treasure each and every one. Funny cards, handmade cards, thoughtful cards, cards with advice such as Mary Sue’s that wisely counseled to celebrate by eating pie and swearing. I managed both.
Thank you one and all for helping me celebrate the big 6-0 in such style. Hard to imagine being that old. I still remember the girl who tentatively walked into her first classroom and fell in love with teaching. I’ve never really fallen out of love, you know.
You are invited to be a special guest at the launch of my new website. It has been great fun building it, and I hope it, and this blog, will become dynamic paths for the exchange of ideas between us all. Please take a moment to visit: www.culhamwriting.com
